Dechen Phodrang Monastery: Bhutan’s Serene Spiritual Retreat

Dechen Phodrang Monastery, is a significant religious and cultural site. It’s known for its serene atmosphere and beautiful architecture. The monastery, whose name translates to “Palace of Great Happiness,” was established in the 17th century by the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan. It played a crucial role in the establishment of the Drukpa Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism in Bhutan.
