Itinerary

Once you arrive at the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our English speaking guide and drive to Thimphu, the capital city. It is a one and half hour drive.

On the way visit Tachogang Iron Chain Bridge, which is located on the ridge with a beautiful view. After reaching Thimphu, visit; National Memorial Chorten: Probably one of the most popular Thimphu points of interest. 

Lunch at Zombala 2 Restaurant, a popular eatery for both locals and tourists seeking authentic flavors. Try Momos (dumplings), Thukpa: A comforting noodle soup and Ema Datshi: Bhutan’s national dish made with chilies and cheese.

 

Walk through Bhutan’s capital city exploring Clock Tower Square, a prominent landmark adorned with intricate Bhutanese motifs and stroll towards Thimphu’s iconic traffic junction, famously known as the main traffic circle as it has no traffic lights. Instead, you’ll witness a white-gloved traffic officer gracefully directing vehicles in a choreographed style that has become a tourist attraction in its own right. The Centenary Farmers Market (Now Kaja Throm) is a vibrant and dynamic space, offering a diverse range of products and experiences. Lastly, Tashichhodzong. This magnificent structure stands proudly on the banks of the Wang Chhu River and serves as both a religious and administrative hub of Bhutan. Now it houses the secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the King and central monk body.

After breakfast, visit the Buddha Dordenma Statue, also known as the “Buddha Point,” is a massive statue of Buddha Shakyamuni in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Motithang Takin Preserve also known as the Mini Zoo where you will see Bhutan’s typical national animal. Drupthob nunnery, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.

After lunch, visit the National Institute of Traditional Medicine where you can discover how Bhutanese traditional medicine—known as Sowa Rigpa—uses natural ingredients such as herbs, minerals, and animal products to treat various ailments. You will also have the opportunity to meet the doctors and learn about traditional wellness practices.

In the evening, take a relaxed stroll through the heart of Thimphu. Browse the bustling local market, stop by charming handicraft shops, and soak in the city’s warm and peaceful atmosphere at your own pace.

Overnight in Thimphu

After breakfast visit the Pangri Zampa – Astrology College and seek and find out your astrology birth chart. Here, you will have a personal consultation with an astrologer, who will interpret your astrological chart and offer insights rooted in ancient Bhutanese wisdom. This enlightening session provides a deeper understanding of your life path through the lens of Buddhist cosmology.

After lunch scenic hike through quiet pine forests, with occasional views of the Thimphu valley opening up as you climb higher. The hike takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and reaches Dodeydra Monastery (also known as Dodedrak or Dodey Drak) is a serene monastic retreat that offers deep spiritual insight. Visitors are welcomed to spend the night in simple guest rooms, joining the monks for evening prayers, meditation sessions, and a traditional vegetarian meal.

Begin your day with the monastery’s morning prayer, where the chants of resident monks invite you to immerse in Bhutan’s spiritual essence. The serene ceremony sets a peaceful tone, helping you connect with the sacred atmosphere and divine presence. Afterward, join a traditional cleansing ritual, designed to purify your spirit, bestow blessings, and bring balance to mind and body—preparing you for a truly transformative day.

 

After breakfast, hike back to Thimphu and drive to Phobjikha (4 and half hrs). On the way, stop at Dochula Pass. Dochula Pass is a mountain pass located in the Kingdom of Bhutan, a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas. It sits at an elevation of around 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) above sea level. The pass is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, including the majestic peaks of the snow-capped Himalayas. Once here, you will witness 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens.

On arrival in Phobjikha, visit the Crane Information Center where you get information about the valley. Phobjikha valley is also the winter home of Black Necked Cranes that migrate from the arid plains in the north (Tibetan plateau) to pass their winter in the milder and lower climate. Phobjikha is one of Bhutan’s few glacial valleys and offers incredible scenery.

Overnight in Phobjikha.

After breakfast, set out on a mindful forest bathing experience in the pristine woodlands of Gangtey. You may choose between two options;

 

Option 1: Longtey to Gangtey Hike.

Starting from the picturesque Longtey village, the trail offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas and the surrounding landscapes. Along the way, you can encounter diverse flora and fauna, as well as experience the rich culture and hospitality of the local villagers. The hike is both a physical and spiritual journey, providing a deep connection with nature and Bhutanese traditions.

Trail Distance: Approximately 6-8 kilometers

Duration: 4-6 hours

Difficulty: Moderate

 

Option 2: Gangtey Nature Trail.

The Gangtey Nature Trail is one of the most beautiful, easy and rewarding trail is perfect for all age groups and fitness levels, offering a serene experience through the pristine landscape of the Phobjikha Valley. The walk is mostly downhill or flat, taking about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete at a relaxed pace. Throughout the hike, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the U-shaped Phobjikha Valley, one of the most beautiful and ecologically important valleys in Bhutan. 

Moving slowly and mindfully, you’ll be encouraged to open your senses, inhale the fresh mountain air, and connect with the healing power of nature. This hike focuses less on distance and more on presence, offering a deeply restorative experience for both body and mind.

Join the evening meditation class at the Shedra. The Gangtey Shedra (Buddhist College), where approximately 300 monks study. The Shedra is an institute where the monks learn about Buddhist philosophy, poetry, logic, meditation and debate. 

Overnight in Phobjikha

After breakfast, visit Gangtey Gompa dating back to the 17th century, perched atop a small hill that overlooks almost the entire Phobjikha Valley, the spectacular Gangtey Monastery is surrounded by a large village. A must-visit when in Gangtey.

Then, drive back to Punakha (1 and half hrs). walk across farmhouses to reach Chimi Lhakhang, A 15th-century fertility temple, blessed by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, who is known as the Divine Madman for his eccentric behaviors. He is also considered a symbol of fertility and many childless couples go to his temple for blessing. 

Then visit Punakha Dzong, one of the majestic fortresses which is located between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River). Punakha was the ancient capital of Bhutan. Then visit the longest suspension bridge across the dzong, spanning 160m over the Phochu River, and connect the Punakha Dzong (fortress) with the nearby villages and agricultural lands.

After breakfast, take a mindful journey to Talo Village, a serene settlement in Punakha, where the fresh mountain air, traditional architecture, and natural beauty create a calming space for inner balance and reflection. Your journey then leads to Nalanda Monastery, nestled amidst rolling hills and quiet landscapes. Here, you are invited to slow down—breathe deeply, embrace the purity of the mountain air, and connect with the calming energy of this sacred sanctuary. Continue to the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery, gracefully perched on a hilltop surrounded by lush pine forests. Overlooking the Punakha and Wangdue valleys, this sacred site offers a tranquil space for meditation, spiritual connection, and holistic wellness.

A riverside picnic with a stunning view of Punakha Dzong offers a unique blend of wellness, spirituality, and natural beauty. Surrounded by flowing waters and sacred landscapes, this serene experience allows you to slow down, nourish both body and soul, and feel deeply connected to Bhutan’s cultural and spiritual essence.

Later in the evening, travel to Nyergang Lhakhang in Wangdue, where you’ll join the young monks for their evening prayers. These monks attend school during the day and dedicate their evenings to spiritual practice. Visiting this temple offers a unique opportunity to experience Bhutan’s culture and spirituality in an authentic and meaningful way.

Optional: Enjoy an overnight stay at a local homestay, where you can experience the warmth and authenticity of traditional Bhutanese hospitality. Accommodations are simple yet comfortable, often featuring classic Bhutanese décor. Guests are provided with essential amenities, including clean bedding, hot water, and bathroom facilities, ensuring a cozy and memorable stay.

Overnight in Punakha

Begin your journey with a 45 minutes hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel chorten with the picturesque view of the rice terraces along the river. It is a beautiful chorten located on a ridge at Kabesa Gewog in Punakha overlooking several villages. It is a 30-minute drive from the Khuruthang Town and a 45-minute uphill hike from the base of the hill through suspension bridge and rice fields.

Then drive to Paro (3.5 hrs). 

In Paro visit Dungtse Lhakhang, a unique chorten-shaped temple located near Paro. Built in the 15th century by the Tibetan lama Thangtong Gyalpo, it is said to subdue harmful spirits in the area.

Chencho Weaving Center in Paro Town is a locally-run weaving center showcases the intricate art of traditional Bhutanese weaving, offering visitors a chance to witness skilled artisans at work.

Take a leisurely stroll through Paro’s charming downtown, where you can explore quaint shops, browse local handicrafts, and pick up unique souvenirs. Pause at a cozy café to enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea, soaking in the relaxed atmosphere and the vibrant rhythms of daily life in this picturesque Bhutanese town.

Namgay Artisanal Brewery: Did you know Bhutan has some of the most reputed and highly enjoyed brews? Well, if you are a beer lover and want to taste some of the finest brews, you must visit the Namgay Artisanal Brewery in Paro Valley. Overnight in Paro

Taktsang Monastery: The wooden structure built amazingly, stands bravely on a cliff. It is said that the great Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress and set up this monastery when he brought the teachings of the Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th Century. From the road, the hike toward Taktsang follows an uphill route and returning back takes approximately 5-6 hours at an average walking pace on a clear, sunny day.

Later we welcome you to visit Bhutanese homes for Hot Stone Bath. A Bhutanese hot stone bath is the perfect way to relax and wind down after a long day of sightseeing and is also believed to have numerous health benefits. 

After this relaxing experience, enjoy a playful archery session, Bhutan’s beloved national sport. More than just a game, it encourages mindfulness, focus, and breath awareness, bringing a joyful sense of presence.

Conclude your day with a thoughtfully prepared Bhutanese farmhouse dinner, savoring the rich local flavors and the warmth of sharing a simple, nourishing meal in a welcoming setting.

The journey includes moderate hikes, such as the iconic trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery and walks through valleys and forests. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, but the pace is flexible and tailored to participants.

There is a one-off fee of US$40 for the processing of your application. This is payable at the same time as your Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), as part of the process of submitting your visa application.
