Itinerary

The early morning flight to Paro reveals scenic and breathtaking views of Himalayan Mountains of the world. If weather permits you will be able to see Mt. Everest (8848 m, 29,198ft) and other Himalayan Mountain Ranges. Once you arrive at the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative (Guide) and then drive to Thimphu (50km) which takes approximately an hour. On the way visit;
Tachogang Iron Chain Bridge, located along Paro-Thimphu highway, before Chhuzom. It is just a 10 minutes walk from the highway. It is a great spot for photography with a stunning view and peaceful ambience.

After arriving in Thimphu,visit; National Memorial Chorten: Probably one of the most popular Thimphu points of interest.
Lunch at Zombala 2 Restaurant, a popular eatery for both locals and tourists seeking authentic flavors. Try Momos (dumplings), Thukpa: A comforting noodle soup and Ema Datshi: Bhutan’s national dish made with chilies and cheese.

Walk through Bhutan’s capital city exploring Clock Tower Square, a prominent landmark adorned with intricate Bhutanese motifs and stroll towards Thimphu’s iconic traffic junction, famously known as the main traffic circle as it has no traffic lights. Instead, you’ll witness a white-gloved traffic officer gracefully directing vehicles in a choreographed style that has become a tourist attraction in its own right.

The Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory is reputedly the best place that manufactures traditional paper. You can buy this unique paper here which will make for interesting souvenir gifts.

The Centenary Farmers Market (Now Kaja Throm) is a vibrant and dynamic space, offering a diverse range of products and experiences. 

Tashichho Dzong, the magnificent fortress-monastery that houses the offices of the King and the central monastic body. The fortress opens to visitors between 05:00PM to 06:30PM during weekdays and 09:00 AM to 04:30 PM.

After breakfast, Dordenma Buddha statue: Atop a hill in Thimphu, the capital and largest city of Bhutan, is a massive, golden Buddha. Royal Takin Preserve, also known as the Mini Zoo by many is a small natural preserve for the Takin – Bhutan’s national animal. Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory is reputedly the best place that manufactures traditional paper. You can buy this unique paper here which will make for interesting souvenir gifts.

On the way back visit The Choki Traditional Art School (CTAS) is a unique and inspiring institution and Pangri Zampa – Astrology College and seek and find out your astrology birth chart. Learn your Bhutanese name and your fortune in a fascinating sitting with a Buddhist monk.

After lunch, After lunch begin your hike to Dodeydra Monastery that takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace and rest stops. Moderate uphill walk through pine & rhododendron forest. At the monastery visit the main temple and join the monks for evening prayers and meditation sessions.

Join early morning prayers (optional but highly recommended). Experience chanting, rituals, and meditation. After breakfast, observe monks studying and chanting sessions. Interact with the Lama (head Monk) and learn about monk education (Shedra life) and after breakfast trek back to Thimphu.

depart to Phobjikha (3-4 hrs). It is a scenic drive to the beautiful valley of Phobjikha. Phobjikha valley is also the winter home of Black Necked Cranes that migrate from the arid plains in the north (Tibetan plateau) to pass their winter in the milder and lower climate. Phobjikha is one of Bhutan’s few glacial valleys and offers incredible scenery.

The journey takes you through winding mountain roads, pristine forests, and picturesque Himalayan landscapes.

The highlight of the drive is crossing the breathtaking Dochula Pass (3,100 meters), one of Bhutan’s most spectacular mountain passes. On a clear day, enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped Eastern Himalayas. The beauty of this place is further enhanced by the Druk Wangyel Chorten – 108 stupas

Continue your descent through lush forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron as the landscape gradually transforms into the fertile and subtropical Punakha Valley. Continue further and Phobjikha, pausing briefly for photography of Wangduephodrang Dzong at the Bridge. Our journey then takes us over the scenic Lawa La Pass as we make our way to Gangtey.

On arrival in Gangtey, visit Gangtey Gompa dating back to the 17th century, perched atop a small hill that overlooks almost the entire Phobjikha Valley, the spectacular Gangtey Monastery is surrounded by a large village. A must-visit when in Gangtey.

After breakfast visit the Crane Information Center where you get information about the valley. 

Then set out on the Gangtey Nature Trail, which is one and a half hours, one of the most scenic walks in the region. The trail begins from Gangtey Monastery and meanders through pine forests, flower-dotted meadows, and stretches of open valley.

Then drive to Punakha (2 hrs). Along the way, pass traditional villages, terraced rice fields, and beautiful river valleys that showcase Bhutan’s rural charm. 

Spend your evening at the Wangdue Dzong View Farm House in Wangdue, an ideal vantage point to experience genuine Bhutanese hospitality. Walk through surrounding villages, rice fields, and engage with farmers and local communities. Join the host family in preparing Bhutan’s signature dishes such as Ema Datshi (chili and cheese), Kewa Datshi (potato and cheese), and Suja (butter tea).

Overnight: Punakha

After breakfast, drive to Talo village and take a walk into the village. Talo Village is a picturesque settlement located in the Punakha District of Bhutan. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,800 meters (9,200 feet) above sea level, Talo is known for its stunning natural beauty, traditional Bhutanese architecture, and vibrant cultural heritage.

The Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery is perched on a hilltop overlooking the beautiful Punakha valley and Wangduephodrang valley.

Then visit Punakha Dzong, one of the majestic fortresses which is located between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River). Punakha was the ancient capital of Bhutan. Then visit the longest suspension bridge across the dzong, spanning 160m over the Phochu River, and connect the Punakha Dzong (fortress) with the nearby villages and agricultural lands.

Enjoy a delightful picnic lunch by the riverside in Punakha, with breathtaking views of the majestic Punakha Dzong, beautifully situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. It is the perfect setting to relax and soak in the serene natural surroundings.

Later, 45 minutes hike (one way) to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel chorten with the picturesque view of the rice terraces along the river. Khasum Yulley Namgyal is a beautiful chorten located on a ridge at Kabesa Gewog in Punakha overlooking several villages.

Overnight: Punakha

After breakfast, walk across farmhouses in Sopsokha village to reach Chimi Lhakhang, A 15th-century fertility temple, blessed by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, who is known as the Divine Madman for his eccentric behaviors. He is also considered a symbol of fertility and many childless couples go to his temple for blessing.

Start the journey to Paro (4 hrs). 

In Paro, visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, also known as Paro Dzong, is one of Bhutan’s most iconic fortresses, located in the scenic Paro Valley. Its full name, Rinpung Dzong, translates to “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels”.

Kyichu Lhakhang, an ancient Buddhist temple located in Paro Valley, Bhutan. It is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in the country.

Later, visit Chencho Weaving Center in Paro Town, a locally-run weaving center showcases the intricate art of traditional Bhutanese weaving, offering visitors a chance to witness skilled artisans at work.

Later enjoy some free time to explore the charming Paro downtown. Stroll along the main street lined with colorful traditional Bhutanese architecture. You may also explore the local market area or simply relax at a cozy café.

Taktsang Monastery: The wooden structure built amazingly, stands bravely on a cliff. It is said that the great Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress and set up this monastery when he brought the teachings of the Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th Century. From the road, the hike toward Taktsang follows an uphill route and returning back takes approximately 5-6 hours at an average walking pace on a clear, sunny day.

Later we welcome you to visit Bhutanese homes for Hot Stone Bath. A Bhutanese hot stone bath is the perfect way to relax and wind down after a long day of sightseeing and is also believed to have numerous health benefits. Practice archery at the farmhouse. Archery is the national sport of Bhutan. With our archery lessons, your guide will set up the targets and teach you the rules, as well as how to correctly hold the bow.
Darts are another popular pastime in Bhutan, with a different scoring system to the western tradition, and a target low to the ground. Both sports are a fun way to spend an afternoon, enjoying some healthy competition. Later dinner with them and experience their hospitality. A visit gives you an interesting glimpse into the lifestyle of Bhutan.

Namgay Artisanal Brewery: Did you know Bhutan has some of the most reputed and highly enjoyed brews? Well, if you are a beer lover and want to taste some of the finest brews, you must visit the Namgay Artisanal Brewery in Paro Valley.
