Chakar Lhakhang

Chakar Lhakhang - The Historic Iron Castle Temple

Chakar Lhakhang dates back to the 8th century and is believed to have been built by King Sindhu Raja. According to legend, the king constructed a nine-story iron palace at this site, from which the temple gets its name. The current structure is what remains of this ancient palace. The temple is closely associated with Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the revered Buddhist saint who is said to have meditated in the area. Guru Rinpoche’s blessings and influence are an integral part of the temple’s spiritual significance.

Situated in the picturesque Bumthang Valley, Chakar Lhakhang is surrounded by stunning natural beauty. The serene environment adds to the temple’s spiritual ambiance, making it a perfect place for reflection and meditation.
