We requested for a bike for 3 days and absolutely loved riding it. Both the guide and driver were very comfortable with handling both bike and car which made us feel very safe. The trip has been perfect: the hotels, the food, the people, the landscapes, the architecture... Our favorites were the Punakha Dzong (with incredible beauty) and the immense Phobjikha Valley. And we especially loved the picnic and hot stone bath plans for their authenticity. All the hotels were great, with spacious rooms and great service, and the daily food has been very good, very abundant, rich and varied.Very well organized trip, with a special mention to the guide Bijay and the driver Karma, a 10 for them! I really recommend the tour, especially my guide Sonam Lhamo and driver Ugyen Wangchuk. They were both fantastic and made my trip great. The schedule allowed to see so many things, yet it did not feel rushed. Also the tour allowed for tailored activities depending on what I wanted to see and visit. I would have spent more time though because 4 days was too short for me. My guide Sonam had so much knowledge about all the sites as well as answering my questions about history and culture, and driver Ugyen was very caring and always prioritising safety and wellbeing. The accomodations the tour selected were also very nice and comfortable. Drukgyel Dzong: Historic Fortress and Monastery in Paro, Bhutan
Drukgyel Dzong is a historic fortress and monastery located in the Paro District of Bhutan. Built in the 17th century, this dzong holds great historical and cultural significance. Drukgyel Dzong was constructed in 1649 by the great Bhutanese leader Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate a decisive victory over invading Tibetan forces. The dzong served as a defense fortress and a religious center.
The dzong exemplifies traditional Bhutanese architecture with its robust construction, strategic location, and intricate design. Despite suffering significant damage from a fire in 1951, the ruins still evoke a sense of grandeur. The Bhutanese government has undertaken restoration efforts to preserve and reconstruct the dzong, aiming to restore it to its former glory and make it a symbol of Bhutanese heritage.
