Sacred Monasteries of Wangdue Phodrang
The district is a spiritual hub with several important monasteries:
Baylangdra Monastery – A serene monastery perched on a hilltop, Baylangdra offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. It is known for its peaceful environment and traditional Bhutanese architecture, making it a favorite for meditation and cultural study.
Gangteng Monastery – Located in the breathtaking Phobjikha Valley, Gangteng Monastery is a key center of the Nyingma school of Buddhism. The monastery overlooks wide, serene valleys and is famous for the annual Black-Necked Crane Festival, celebrating the migratory birds that arrive here each winter.
