Kuenzangdra Monastery Hike

Kuenzang Dra Monastery, also known as Kunzangdrak Goemba, is one of the most picturesque and significant monasteries in Bhutan. Nestled high in the cliffs above the Bumthang Valley, it offers breathtaking views and a serene environment that attracts both pilgrims and hikers.

Reaching the monastery offers a rewarding view of the valley below and the majestic monastery perched on the cliffside. The serene environment is perfect for meditation and quiet reflection.

The hike begins with a gradual climb through field, pine and oak forests, occasionally opening to breathtaking views of Tang Valley’s patchwork fields. Along the way, you’ll pass small farmhouses and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, adding a colorful touch to the serene mountain setting.

The last stretch is steeper and may require short breaks, but the reward at the top is worth it — the monastery clings to the cliffside, giving a sense of timeless isolation.
