Day 1: Merak to Miksateng

The trek begins early in the morning from Merak, following trails through meadows, forests, and high-altitude passes.

  • First Pass – 3,900 m: Enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Merak Valley, the last glimpse of Merak village.
  • Forest Trails: Trek through outgrowths of juniper and rhododendron, offering glimpses of the region’s rich flora.
  • Nachungla Pass – 4,153 m: The highest point of the trek, with sweeping views of alpine valleys and surrounding mountains.

  • Descent into Sakteng Village: Trek down into the valley, within the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, keeping an eye out for rare birds such as Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasants, and if lucky, the elusive Red Panda.
