Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery – Spiritual Center of Eastern Bhutan

Nestled in the heart of Trashigang District in eastern Bhutan, the Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery stands as a beacon of spirituality, learning, and compassion. Overlooking the tranquil village of Rangjung, this revered monastery is not only a center of monastic education but also a deeply spiritual space for locals and travelers seeking peace and insight into Bhutanese Buddhist traditions.

Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery was founded in 1989 by His Eminence Garab Rinpoche, one of Bhutan’s most respected contemporary spiritual masters. The name “Rangjung” translates to “self-arisen”, signifying divine emergence, while “Woesel Choeling” means “the sanctuary of clear and radiant teachings.”

Garab Rinpoche envisioned this monastery as a place for intensive Buddhist studies and meditation practice, and today it serves as a spiritual home to hundreds of monks and lay practitioners.
