Rinpung Dzong - A Fortress of Historical

Perched on a hill overlooking the serene Paro Valley, Paro Rinpung Dzong is one of Bhutan’s most iconic and architecturally striking fortresses. Also known as the “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels,” this majestic dzong stands as a symbol of Bhutanese spiritual and cultural heritage, attracting travelers, pilgrims, and photography enthusiasts from around the world.

Rinpung Dzong was constructed in 1646 under the orders of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan. It was built on the foundations of an earlier monastery established by Guru Rinpoche in the 10th century. The dzong played a crucial defensive role in protecting the Paro Valley from Tibetan invasions and today serves both as a religious center and the administrative office of the Paro district.
