EXCELLENT Based on 150 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Jorg H12 July 2026Verified perfect days in Bhutan We were so lucky to have Sonam as our guide for our 8 day tour of Bhutan. Everything along the way was perfect and we had no difficulties at all. Sonam was friendly, funny and entertaining, but what really blew us away was her knowledge of the history of Bhutan and Buddhism and her ability to tell the stories and legends of the various characters in Buddhism that we encountered. He knowledge really helped to enhance our enjoyment of Bhutan as well as our other travels into Tibet and China. I also want to mention our driver Nawang. He was a very calm and careful driver and we appreciated his driving over some challenging roads. We never felt scared or nervous and he never lost his cool, or became frustrated with other drivers. Overall, our guide and driver team made our trip to Bhutan easy, educational, fun, interesting, safe and fantastic!! The tour itself was well thought out, customized according to our interests, competitively priced and communication with Ngawang (not sure about spelling) the owner was very timely and clear.Posted on Tripadvisor Rita D3 July 2026Verified Excellent Price to Value Tour Fabulous Tour! We appreciated that OMSHA was responsive from inquiry to final booking. Price to value was excellent. We liked the selected itinerary and appreciated that we could make changes as needed. Our guides Sonam and Tashi were knowledgeable and professional and we had great conversations. It felt more like traveling with friends than with a tour. I would highly recommend OMSHA. You won't be disappointed!Posted on Tripadvisor Michael S16 June 2026Verified Hassle free and flexible Communication was quick and clear from the start. Personable. Individualized itineraries but hassle free. Flexible. Tour guide was great at adjusting plans to better fit my style as the trip progressed. Undoubtedly the way to go. No regrets!Posted on Tripadvisor rayaro15 June 2026Verified Marvelous Bhutan We had a group of friends and family on 7 days tour of Western Bhutan. Level of service provided by OMSHA travel was unmatched in many areas. From the pick up at the airport, Sonam and Ganesh kept our exploration of Bhutan flawless. Our requests to visit specific areas and activities were accommodated. We spent a night in a homestay in Gasa, visited hot springs, had a lovely riverside birthday picnic and attended Folklore Show that was a highlight of our trip. Nawang handled all communications and financial details thoroughly and transparently.Posted on Tripadvisor Wander340623001438 June 2026Verified Amazing Bhutan We traveled to Bhutan in June 2026, and Omsha Travels made our holiday a truly wonderful experience. Visiting Gasa and Tigress Nest were the highlights of our trip. We loved Hot stone bath in Thimphu and warm natural springs near Gasa. Our guide Sonam and our driver Ganesh took really good care of us. She was flexible and adjusted our itinerary to avoid crowds, which made the experience more enjoyable. Sonam knows the sites well and shared many interesting stories. It was great to learn about Bhutanese culture both visually and through conversation. The driver was also a very friendly and cheerful person, which added to the pleasant journey 😊.

Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is not just a travel destination—it is a deeply spiritual kingdom where culture, tradition, and respect for nature are central to everyday life. To ensure a meaningful and respectful journey, it is important for visitors to understand the local customs and etiquette.
Here are the essential do’s and don’ts in Bhutan every traveler should know before visiting.
✅ Do’s in Bhutan
1. Do Respect Local Culture and Traditions
Bhutanese society is deeply rooted in Buddhism. Always show respect when visiting monasteries, dzongs, and religious sites. Observe quietly and follow local guidance.
2. Do Dress Modestly
When visiting religious places, wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Modest dressing is a sign of respect and is highly appreciated.
3. Do Remove Shoes and Hats in Sacred Places
Before entering temples, monasteries, or religious buildings, always remove your shoes and hats.
4. Do Walk Clockwise Around Religious Structures
When visiting stupas, prayer wheels, or temples, always walk in a clockwise direction as a sign of respect.
5. Do Try Local Bhutanese Food
Bhutanese cuisine is unique and flavorful. Try dishes like Ema Datshi (chili and cheese), red rice, and Phaksha Paa for an authentic experience.
6. Do Ask Before Taking Photos
Always ask permission before photographing monks, locals, or religious ceremonies. Some temples may also restrict photography inside.
7. Do Respect the Environment
Bhutan is known for its commitment to environmental conservation. Avoid littering and respect the natural surroundings.
8. Do Carry Cash for Small Purchases
While major towns accept cards, rural areas often rely on cash. Carry Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) or Indian Rupees.
❌ Don’ts in Bhutan
1. Don’t Disrespect Religious Objects
Do not touch sacred statues, prayer flags, or religious artifacts inside monasteries.
2. Don’t Point Your Feet at People or Altars
Pointing feet toward people, monks, or religious objects is considered disrespectful in Bhutanese culture.
3. Don’t Wear Revealing Clothes in Sacred Areas
Avoid shorts, sleeveless tops, or short skirts when visiting temples or dzongs.
4. Don’t Interrupt Religious Ceremonies
If a prayer or ritual is in progress, observe quietly and avoid disturbing the proceedings.
5. Don’t Take Photos Where Prohibited
Some temples and religious sites strictly prohibit photography. Always check before taking pictures.
6. Don’t Expect Fast-Paced Travel
Bhutan follows a “slow tourism” approach. Rushing through destinations goes against the spirit of mindful travel.
7. Don’t Disrespect Nature or Wildlife
Bhutan is a biodiversity-rich country. Do not disturb animals or damage natural habitats.
Cultural Sensitivity Makes Your Journey Better
Understanding Bhutanese etiquette not only helps you avoid mistakes but also enriches your travel experience. The people of Bhutan are warm and welcoming, and showing respect ensures meaningful interactions throughout your journey.
