The journey also takes you to the serene valley of Punakha, known for its warm climate, lush rice fields, and stunning landscapes and one of the most unforgettable experiences of the trip is the hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, a sacred monastery dramatically perched on a cliff about 900 meters above the valley floor. The hike offers spectacular views and a rewarding spiritual experience.

Then to the stunning glacial valley of Phobjikha Valley, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful and tranquil landscapes.

Itinerary

The evening flight to Paro reveals scenic and breathtaking views of Himalayan Mountains of the world. If weather permits you will be able to see Mt. Everest (8848 m, 29,198ft) and other Himalayan Mountain Ranges. Once you arrive at the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative (Guide) and then drive to Thimphu (50km) which takes approximately an hour. On the way visit;
Tachogang Iron Chain Bridge, located along Paro-Thimphu highway, before Chhuzom. It is just a 10 minutes walk from the highway. It is a great spot for photography with a stunning view and peaceful ambience.

Drive further to Punakha (3 hrs) bypassing Thimphu. On the way, stop at Dochula Pass.
Dochula Pass is a mountain pass located in the Kingdom of Bhutan, a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas. It sits at an elevation of around 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) above sea level. The pass is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, including the majestic peaks of the snow-capped Himalayas. You will witness 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens. 

Overnight at Punakha River Lodge.

Start early walk to the three storey Khamsum Yulley Lhakhang, a recent addition to Bhutan‘s string of architecturally splendid buildings, which is located approximately 20-minutes from the Punakha suspension bridge. Have a breakfast overlooking the temple and the valley. Hike back to the hotel. On the way hoist prayer flags at the suspension with monk performing rituals.
Back to the hotel and practice archery is the national sport of Bhutan. With our archery lessons, your guide will set up the targets and teach you the rules, as well as how to correctly hold the bow.
After lunch, River Rafting at Mo Chhu. Punakha’s rivers offer a moderate yet exciting rafting experience. The crystal-clear waters, lush surroundings, and the backdrop of monasteries and traditional Bhutanese villages make it a unique and unforgettable activity.

Overnight at Punakha River Lodge.

After Breakfast, hike to Kabji Hoka Tsho is a rewarding off-the-beaten-path adventure ideal for trekkers who love remote landscapes and immersive cultural experiences. The trail winds through pine and rhododendron forests, small yak herder shelters, and panoramic mountain viewpoints.

  • Hike Duration: Typically a half-day hike (round trip)
  • Starting Point: Kabji village in Punakha, accessible by a drive from Punakha town
  • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging (depending on the season and altitude acclimatization)

During the journey, you may come across rare Himalayan birds, wild orchids, and medicinal plants, making the trek a great choice for nature lovers and photographers.

After lunch, visit Chorten Nyingpo Lhakhang and spend some time with the young monks. It would be thoughtful to bring small gifts such as stationery or sports items like a football, volleyball, or badminton set. 

Overnight at Punakha River Lodge.

Drive to Gangtey/Phobjikha valley (2 hrs). On the way we stop over the scenic Lawo La Pass as we make our way to Gangtey. Once in Gangtey, hike across Gangtey Nature Trail which is one and a half hours and enjoy the breathtaking view of Phobjikha valley.

Join the evening meditation class at the Shedra. The Shedra is an institute where the monks learn about Buddhist philosophy, poetry, logic, meditation and debate. In addition to the regular academic practice and classes for monks, the Shedra provides a meditation class and discussion for our guests, mainly on compassion and shamata (tranquility and calm abiding meditation) by highly qualified lamas, with English translations. This meditation practice will help you overcome stress, develop a peaceful mind and to generate kindness.

Overnight at PGangtey Tent Resort.

After breakfast, visit Gangtey Gompa dating back to the 17th century, perched atop a small hill that overlooks almost the entire Phobjikha Valley, the spectacular Gangtey Monastery is surrounded by a large village. A must-visit when in Gangtey.

Drive to Thimphu (3 hrs). In Thimphu, walk through Bhutan’s capital city exploring Clock Tower Square, a prominent landmark adorned with intricate Bhutanese motifs and stroll towards Thimphu’s iconic traffic junction, famously known as the main traffic circle as it has no traffic lights. Instead, you’ll witness a white-gloved traffic officer gracefully directing vehicles in a choreographed style that has become a tourist attraction in its own right.

 

National Memorial Chorten: Probably one of the most popular Thimphu points of interest. Buddha Dordenma Statue, also known as the “Buddha Point,” a massive statue of Buddha Shakyamuni in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Head to Paro (1 hr).
Overnight at Paro Amba 

 

Taktsang Monastery: The wooden structure built amazingly, stands bravely on a cliff. It is said that the great Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress and set up this monastery when he brought the teachings of the Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th Century. From the road, the hike toward Taktsang follows an uphill route and returning back takes approximately 5-6 hours at an average walking pace on a clear, sunny day.

After the hike enjoy Hot Stone bath at the hotel. This uniquely Bhutanese experience comprises of a bath and massage that uses heated river stones to help relieve deep-set aches and pains.
