Kurjey Lhakhang to Tamshing Monastery Hike

Embark on a serene and spiritually enriching hike through the heart of Bhutan’s sacred Bumthang Valley, connecting two of its most revered monasteries: Kurjey Lhakhang and Tamshing Monastery.

Your journey begins at Kurjey Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s most sacred temples, where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated and left his body imprint on a rock. After exploring the monastery complex, follow a gentle trail along the Chamkhar Chhu (river), passing through peaceful pine forests, traditional farmhouses, and ancient prayer wheels.

Along the way, you’ll soak in the spiritual essence of the valley, often accompanied by fluttering prayer flags and the soft murmur of the river.

The trail leads you to Tamshing Monastery, founded in 1501 by the great spiritual master Pema Lingpa. This monastery is known for its ancient wall paintings and traditional spiritual practices that continue to this day.
