EXCELLENT Based on 150 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Jorg H12 July 2026Verified perfect days in Bhutan We were so lucky to have Sonam as our guide for our 8 day tour of Bhutan. Everything along the way was perfect and we had no difficulties at all. Sonam was friendly, funny and entertaining, but what really blew us away was her knowledge of the history of Bhutan and Buddhism and her ability to tell the stories and legends of the various characters in Buddhism that we encountered. He knowledge really helped to enhance our enjoyment of Bhutan as well as our other travels into Tibet and China. I also want to mention our driver Nawang. He was a very calm and careful driver and we appreciated his driving over some challenging roads. We never felt scared or nervous and he never lost his cool, or became frustrated with other drivers. Overall, our guide and driver team made our trip to Bhutan easy, educational, fun, interesting, safe and fantastic!! The tour itself was well thought out, customized according to our interests, competitively priced and communication with Ngawang (not sure about spelling) the owner was very timely and clear.Posted on Tripadvisor Rita D3 July 2026Verified Excellent Price to Value Tour Fabulous Tour! Our guides Sonam and Tashi were knowledgeable and professional and we had great conversations. It felt more like traveling with friends than with a tour. I would highly recommend OMSHA. You won't be disappointed!Posted on Tripadvisor Michael S16 June 2026Verified Hassle free and flexible Communication was quick and clear from the start. Personable. Level of service provided by OMSHA travel was unmatched in many areas. From the pick up at the airport, Sonam and Ganesh kept our exploration of Bhutan flawless. Our requests to visit specific areas and activities were accommodated. We spent a night in a homestay in Gasa, visited hot springs, had a lovely riverside birthday picnic and attended Folklore Show that was a highlight of our trip. Nawang handled all communications and financial details thoroughly and transparently.Posted on Tripadvisor Wander340623001438 June 2026Verified Amazing Bhutan We traveled to Bhutan in June 2026, and Omsha Travels made our holiday a truly wonderful experience. Fly Fishing in Haa Valley: Bhutan’s Hidden Himalayan Angling Paradise
For travelers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure in Bhutan, fly fishing in Haa Valley offers an unforgettable experience. Surrounded by pristine forests, alpine meadows, and crystal-clear mountain rivers, Haa is one of Bhutan’s most scenic and tranquil destinations. Its untouched waterways provide excellent opportunities for anglers to connect with nature while enjoying the serenity of the Himalayas.
Whether you are an experienced fly fisher or a beginner looking for a unique outdoor activity, Haa Valley promises a rewarding fishing adventure in one of the world’s most pristine environments.
Why Choose Haa Valley for Fly Fishing?
Haa Valley is renowned for its unspoiled landscapes and low visitor numbers, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers. The rivers and streams flowing through the valley are fed by glacial waters from the surrounding mountains, creating ideal habitats for trout and other freshwater species.
Unlike crowded fishing destinations elsewhere in the world, Haa offers solitude, breathtaking scenery, and the opportunity to fish in waters that remain largely untouched.
Fish Species Found in Haa
The cold, clean rivers of Haa Valley support several fish species, including:
- Brown Trout
- Rainbow Trout
- Snow Trout
- Native Himalayan freshwater fish
The abundance and diversity of fish make the valley an attractive destination for fly-fishing enthusiasts seeking a genuine wilderness experience.
Best Time for Fly Fishing
The best seasons for fly fishing in Haa Valley are:
Spring (March to May)
Spring brings mild temperatures, blooming rhododendrons, and active fish feeding patterns. River conditions are generally excellent, making this one of the most popular times for fishing.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn offers clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and stable water levels. The surrounding mountains display stunning seasonal colors, creating a spectacular setting for anglers.
The Fly Fishing Experience
A typical day of fly fishing in Haa begins along one of the valley’s crystal-clear rivers. Surrounded by towering pine forests and mountain peaks, anglers can enjoy peaceful casting opportunities while spotting local wildlife and birds.
The experience is about more than catching fish. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in Bhutan’s natural beauty, listen to the sound of flowing rivers, and appreciate the country’s commitment to environmental conservation.
Professional guides can assist with:
- Selecting suitable fishing locations
- Fly selection and techniques
- Equipment setup
- Understanding local fishing regulations
- Safety and river navigation
More Than Just Fishing
One of the greatest advantages of fishing in Haa Valley is the ability to combine the activity with cultural exploration. Visitors can also enjoy:
Haa Valley Cultural Experiences
Visit traditional villages, ancient temples, and local farmhouses to learn about Bhutanese customs and rural life.
Hiking and Nature Walks
The valley offers numerous scenic trails through forests, mountain ridges, and alpine meadows.
Haa Spring Festival
If visiting during spring, travelers can experience the famous Haa Spring Festival, which showcases local traditions, nomadic culture, traditional sports, and Bhutanese cuisine.
Scenic Drives
The journey to Haa via Chele La Pass, one of Bhutan’s highest motorable roads, offers spectacular views of Himalayan peaks and colorful prayer flags.
Conservation and Sustainable Fishing
