Simtokha Dzong

Simtokha Dzong, located near Thimphu, Bhutan, is one of the country’s oldest and most historically significant dzongs. Built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the founder of Bhutan, Simtokha Dzong is an important historical and religious site. It served as a strategic fortification and a center for religious and administrative activities.

The dzong is renowned for its rich murals and statues, which depict various Buddhist deities and historical figures. Located on a hilltop, it offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains.
