EXCELLENT Based on 150 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Jorg H12 July 2026Verified perfect days in Bhutan We were so lucky to have Sonam as our guide for our 8 day tour of Bhutan. Everything along the way was perfect and we had no difficulties at all. Sonam was friendly, funny and entertaining, but what really blew us away was her knowledge of the history of Bhutan and Buddhism and her ability to tell the stories and legends of the various characters in Buddhism that we encountered. He knowledge really helped to enhance our enjoyment of Bhutan as well as our other travels into Tibet and China. I also want to mention our driver Nawang. He was a very calm and careful driver and we appreciated his driving over some challenging roads. We never felt scared or nervous and he never lost his cool, or became frustrated with other drivers. Overall, our guide and driver team made our trip to Bhutan easy, educational, fun, interesting, safe and fantastic!! The tour itself was well thought out, customized according to our interests, competitively priced and communication with Ngawang (not sure about spelling) the owner was very timely and clear.Posted on Tripadvisor Rita D3 July 2026Verified Excellent Price to Value Tour Fabulous Tour! We appreciated that OMSHA was responsive from inquiry to final booking. Price to value was excellent. We liked the selected itinerary and appreciated that we could make changes as needed. Our guides Sonam and Tashi were knowledgeable and professional and we had great conversations. It felt more like traveling with friends than with a tour. I would highly recommend OMSHA. You won't be disappointed!Posted on Tripadvisor Michael S16 June 2026Verified Hassle free and flexible Communication was quick and clear from the start. Personable. No regrets!Posted on Tripadvisor rayaro15 June 2026Verified Marvelous Bhutan We had a group of friends and family on 7 days tour of Western Bhutan. Level of service provided by OMSHA travel was unmatched in many areas. From the pick up at the airport, Sonam and Ganesh kept our exploration of Bhutan flawless. Our requests to visit specific areas and activities were accommodated. We spent a night in a homestay in Gasa, visited hot springs, had a lovely riverside birthday picnic and attended Folklore Show that was a highlight of our trip. Nawang handled all communications and financial details thoroughly and transparently.Posted on Tripadvisor Wander340623001438 June 2026Verified Amazing Bhutan We traveled to Bhutan in June 2026, and Omsha Travels made our holiday a truly wonderful experience. She was flexible and adjusted our itinerary to avoid crowds, which made the experience more enjoyable. Sonam knows the sites well and shared many interesting stories. It was great to learn about Bhutanese culture both visually and through conversation. The driver was also a very friendly and cheerful person, which added to the pleasant journey 😊.

Punakha Suspension Bridge: Bhutan’s Longest Crossing
Strung across the Po Chhu river, fluttering with thousands of prayer flags, the Punakha Suspension Bridge is one of those places that photographs well but feels even better in person — a long, swaying walkway suspended above turquoise water, connecting Punakha town to the villages and farmland on the opposite bank.
The Longest in the Country
At roughly 160 meters (about 525 feet) long, this is the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, and one of the longest in the Himalayan region. It spans the Po Chhu (father river) just downstream from where it meets the Mo Chhu near Punakha Dzong, connecting Punakha town to Shengana, Samdingkha, and Wolakha villages on the far bank — a crossing that locals use daily as a practical shortcut, not just a tourist attraction.
The bridge itself is a steel-cable structure, modern by construction but built very much in keeping with Bhutan’s long tradition of river crossings — a country famous for its historic cantilevered wooden bridges, of which this is a contemporary cousin.
Walking It
The bridge is draped, top to bottom, in prayer flags — reds, blues, whites, yellows, and greens strung along the cables, fluttering constantly in the valley wind. It sways gently underfoot as you cross, more noticeably toward the middle, which is part of the appeal rather than a deterrent; it’s sturdy, but the movement adds a genuine thrill.
Midway across, the views open up in both directions: Punakha Dzong sitting at the river confluence to one side, rice paddies and farmhouses along the valley floor to the other, and forested hills rising steeply on either bank. Below, the Po Chhu runs a striking turquoise-green, especially vivid in the drier winter months.
More Than a Photo Stop
While it’s become a fixture on Bhutan itineraries for its views and the simple novelty of the crossing, the bridge remains a working piece of village infrastructure. Farmers cross it with produce, children use it to get to school, and monks pass over it en route to nearby temples — a reminder that much of what travelers photograph in Bhutan is still ordinary daily life rather than staged spectacle.
Planning Your Visit
- Getting there: A short walk or drive from Punakha Dzong — easily combined with a visit to the dzong itself, just a few minutes apart.
- Best time to visit: Morning or late afternoon, when the light on the water and surrounding rice terraces is at its best.
- What to bring: Comfortable shoes; the approach involves a short walk along the riverbank, and the bridge itself has a slight bounce underfoot.
- Combine it with: Punakha Dzong (immediately nearby) and, for those up for a longer walk, the trail to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten on the far side of the valley, which starts from roughly the same area.
It’s a small stop by Bhutan standards — no monks, no murals, no centuries of royal history — but crossing it, wind in the prayer flags and the Po Chhu rushing turquoise below, is one of those simple travel moments that ends up in half the photos from the trip.
