Overview
Bhutan follows a “High Value, Low Impact” tourism policy, with a daily tariff called Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). Visitors are levied Sustainable Development Fee by the government of Bhutan and is not part of the tour cost. This ensures that visitors have a high-quality experience while preserving Bhutan’s culture and environment.
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)
- The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is currently $100 per adult per night.
- For children aged 6 to 12, the fee is $50 per night.
- Children up to 5 years old are exempt from the fee.
Visa Fee
All visitors (except those from India and Bangladesh) need a visa to travel to Bhutan. The visa application fee is US$40, which is non-refundable.
SDF for Regional Tourists
- Sustainable Development Fee for Indian Tourists: Rs.1200 per person per night (charged in addition to tour costs).
- Bangladesh Travelers: Similar to Indian travelers, Bangladesh nationals do not require a visa but must apply for an entry permit. The SDF for Bangladeshi tourists is USD 15.00 per person per night (also charged in addition to tour costs).

- Budget Travelers: Expect to spend around $1,500 to $2,400 for a week-long trip (including SDF & Visa Fees).
- Mid-range Travelers: Anticipate costs of approximately $2,000 to $3,500 for a week-long trip, including upgraded accommodations and activities.
- Luxury Travelers: Plan to spend $4,000 and up for a week-long trip featuring high-end services and accommodations.
